December Date - Leavenworth, WA

Last December when I was making up these date cards for the year I had no idea what this December was going to look like for our family - hence the date card this month...

Turns out our Christmas FUN TBA... included a weekend away as a family to Leavenworth, WA!!!!  This little Bavarian Village is known for the amazing Christmas light display they have every December (it's also famous for it's Oktoberfest)!

we were blessed with great, dry roads - you have to drive through Steven's Pass to get to Leavenworth and it can be treacherous, but also an incredibly beautiful drive - there is a rushing river along much of the highway with snow covered mountains and hundreds of evergreens - at times it looks like your driving through a movie scene - it's so beautiful!

We decided to stay for two nights and it's quite the trek to get there - Sully wasn't the biggest fan of the hotel room...

but he loved the hotel pool!

We actually stayed in a town just a little further east than Leavenworth - it has a market that is based loosely on the same idea as Pike's Place Market in Seattle - we checked it out on Sat.

The market is called the Pybus Public Market - named after a famous blacksmith from the area (I think...)

it was in a really cool warehouse looking building

we stopped for a little lunch

Matt loved his meal - he found a pineapple drink that was very similar to the one he loved in Uganda - and his sandwich - wow - soooo good - all fresh goods from the area!

Saturday evening we headed into the village

us and thousands of our closest friends!!!  there were sooooooo many people!

the lights were lovely!

we didn't stay too long as it was really really crowded thus making all the stores, restaurants and streets really really crowded - but it was very pretty!
We enjoyed the weekend away as just our little family - it's always nice to get away and leave the busyness of life behind for a few days!
