BC Touring

This past weekend we were tourist in our own backyard.  Our first stop was a berry farm that is about 15 min from our house - strawberry season has just began out here and we took FULL advantage of the u-pick!

There were tons of beautifully plump berries to pick from.  Before we left we headed over to their bakery for a piece of strawberry custard pie and a warm strawberry shortcake - mmm mmm good!

Next, we headed to Fort Langley - stopped at the 50's dinner for lunch and then headed on to the Fort.

Fort Langley has preserved it's Fort dating back to the early 1900 I believe.  We toured around the site which use to be a trading post for the Hudson's Bay Company - we got our fill of BC history for the day!

A Splash of Summer

I have been feeling so much better the past couple of weeks and finally felt like getting my craft on again.  My fireplace had been lacking love over the past few months (well really since Easter)!
Summer Lovin

Candle holders made from jar lids and clothes pins - easy!
Next I made a topiary that I found on pinterest...what I didn't know was the amount of time this little project would end up taking...hours and hours!  I ended up making about 150 of these 'cute' little roses!
I am quite happy with the end result...but the journey I was not as big of a fan of!
Pinwheel garland - super easy to do.

Summer chalkboard - our fun to do list!

Baby K

Many of you know by now that our plans for this next year took a very different, but exciting turn sometime in March:)  Matt and I found out that we were going to be parents, something that we had been slowly preparing for as we were going through the adoption process, but the change of events was that our first child is going to be biological!!!

As many of you also knew, our adoption agency that we had been working with went under in January leaving us a little poorer and having to start the adoption process practically from scratch again with a new agency.  This closure not only affected us, but with us another 300 families that were all being displaced to other organizations thus overloading the few other organizations in BC.  So even though this was a bit of a surprise to us, we see that there is such wisdom in giving  the adoption world in BC time to figure itself out and hopefully we will again dive back into it in a couple of years - but for now we are so thankful for a little person that is being grown in my uterus even as I write this blog...we have been blessed!

March 28, 2012 - the day we found out:)

We celebrated that day with ordering pizza (little things excite us)

A couple of days later I came home to this..."The Pregnancy Survival Kit" made lovingly by my husband!

Matt had researched all things pregnancy and the kit has proven to be very useful - it included things such as:
crackers, ginger tea & gingerale - for nausea
tennis ball, big bouncy ball, heat pack & body pillow - for comfort
tums - for heart burn
books - for learning
lotion - for stretch marks
box of tissue - for my crazy emotions
It was perfect!

We were so excited to tell our family about the baby - we bought some special onesies for the occasion.

Nathan got to find our first as he was the first family we saw

then Dad K

and Mom K

followed that afternoon by Mom M

We made a special late night trip to see Papa Kaminski to tell him the news

And finally Dad M

Sorry we don't have pics of Becca, Dan & Hailey hearing the news, but know that they are all very excited and very fun to share our news with.  We are so glad that the cat is out of the bag - we are not good at keeping secrets - especially such big deal ones.

So now if you didn't know you do now - please be praying for us as we continue to grow this special little baby and prepare to be parents!

10 year reunion!

Just got back a week ago from a quick trip home for my 10 year reunion.  Trish and I were planning on driving home for the long weekend, but due to unexpected twist of events including a mud slide decided instead to fly to Calgary and then drive the rest of the way.  It was a great weekend - sad that Matt had to stay at home and work - but great to see so many people.  I was able to see both sets of parents and Dan & Hailey!  Plus stopped in and had some visits with these cuties....

Handsome Cooper
Cutie Patootie Sawyer
Ezra, Correna & Baby Bump #3 (Ryder was napping)
And finally the reunion of the three musketeers:) We have all seen each other at different times but havn't been together the three of us for quite some time.  We were fairly inseparable during high school so it seemed fitting to attend our 10 year reunion together.  It was a great time - fun to catch up with so many different people!

The Big One!

We stayed at a cabin on a lake during our time in Minnesota - Nathan and Matt spent hours fishing on the lake.

there were many little fish caught...

The morning we were leaving the cabin to fly home Matt went out for one last fish and he caught the BIG ONE!  I believe this is a Northern Pike - it was 32 inches and weighed approx. 9 lbs!!!  Matt gave the fish to the owners of the resort who were going to have it for supper that night:)

Family

During our visit down to Minnesota we were able to see much family that I hadn't seen in years and some family that Matt has never met - it was a treat!

Always fun to have our immediate family together:)

Siblings!

Us with Auntie Deb, our Cousin Jenny and her very cute kids Matthew & Amanda - we spent an afternoon at the zoo together!

Grandma Morgan

Grandpa Morgan

My Grandpa Morgan passed away on May 19, 2012.  My entire family was able to travel to Minnesota to celebrate his life.  Grandpa will be missed, but we treasure the memories we have with him.  Below is a little piece that I wrote for Grandpa's eulogy.

When I think of my Grandpa I have many wonderful memories that flood through my mind.   I have many memories of holidays and summer spent with Grandma & Grandpa Morgan.  It was such a treat to be able to spend a couple of weeks in Minnesota during the summer.  I have very vivid memoires over many years on warm Minnesota nights sitting in the garage in lawn chairs drinking a Pepsi with Grandpa and discussing life.  I remember thinking that Grandpa was a hero.  As kids we knew about Grandpa being a marine and we loved to hear stories about his time overseas and see the many items that he had brought back with him.  Grandpa was very proud of being a marine but at the same time was very humble and it was not till we were much older as kids that we learned the extant of his service while overseas and then it was us who was proud.

Grandpa was a man of tradition – which I loved!  I so enjoyed Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa’s house because there was a wonderful safety that came with having traditions.  We would always eat the same wonderful meals on specific days of the holiday.  Gifts were always opened on Christmas Eve and stocking on Christmas day.  His traditions flowed over into normal every day life too.  Waking up at Grandma and Grandpa’s and coming downstairs it would be a strange morning not to find my Grandpa sitting in the same spot at the dining room table drinking his coffee and reading his morning paper as if he was waiting for us to get up and join him.  He would always ask us what we wanted for breakfast and if we wanted bacon and eggs he was happy to oblige!  We would then eat our breakfast while reading the funny pages of the newspaper together.

Grandpa Morgan was a fun Grandpa.  Grandma and Grandpa had kept many of the toys that my dad and uncle had played with – it was such fun to visit and go into the attic and dig through the boxes to find the toys.  Grandpa also loved to play with us – from setting up train tracks, to taking us bowling, crochet in the yard, to card games at the dining room table – Grandpa was a hands on Grandpa!

Grandpa also had a great sense of humor.  He was always joking around with us.  We would inevitably go shopping when we were in the states to get good deals.  Grandpa would without fail ask us what we got when we returned to the house and always would poke fun at the amount we spent or what we had bought.  I also remember as a little girl Grandpa allowed me to use the riding lawn mower, which I thought was the greatest thing!  I would get so excited to cut the grass because Grandpa would let me doing the riding while he pushed the standup mower and did a great deal of edging so that I could just ride in the lines.  One afternoon while riding I somehow ran into the big tree that was in the front yard on the house.  I remember being terrified that I may have broken something, but when I looked over at Grandpa and saw him laughing I knew that everything was just fine.

I am grateful for the memories I have of my Grandpa and hope that I can continue on his legacy – I am thankful for the things he has taught me.

Alise & Nathan get hitched!
