Guemes Island

My dad retired from 41 years as a pastor this past June.  We thought long and hard of a gift that we could get him to commemorate this milestone in life.  Our gift ideas quickly moved from things to experiences and after much thought we decided that what dad would like most is to have his family TOGETHER!  So we rented a house on a tiny island just outside of Anacortes, WA and started planning.  We wanted the week to be a surprise for dad (we told mom to keep the week open in their calendar but other then that she also was kept out of the loop).  The day before we left dad opened the card below...

The Friday morning I picked mom and dad up and drove them across the border to pick up Becca from the airport, a few hours later Matt and the kids joined our caravan and then later that night Nathan, Caitlin and Gracie showed up to the cabin - it was a grand surprise!
